Slow Traffic - Is There Something Wrong With My Blog?

Slow Traffic - Is There Something Wrong With My Blog?

Read post

Having a blog involves a lot of things, is not only about having content, taking pictures, and being in all social media channels as possible. Is also about engagement and traffic. It can be extremely difficult at times and take a very long time for your blog to gain a good amount of popularity.

To answer the title question: NO, there is nothing wrong with your blog because you don’t get traffic but there are probably some ways you can try to increase it. Always remember that is not as fast or easy as you would like to but keep working on it and do it because you genuinely love and care about what you share and, you will get there.

So how do you get to engage your viewers/readers?

Sharing your content – not only once is published but as long as the post is relevant you can keep reminding them about the post. Twitter is a great tool for this, you can schedule tweets about your posts every so often so they are always there. (hashtags are key too)

Pictures – I have been doing a lot more writing lately and I just can’t never imagine a post with plain text only, NO! Always put images on your blog, if you don’t have one that is related to the post think about ideas to take some or use programs like Photoshop to design your own. Even is it’s just to write the name of the post on an image, do not leave it only as text.

Socialize and interact – I have actually abandoned twitter for a while but I realized you get to connect with a lot of people and interact with them in such an easy way. I know 140 characters can be a pain but is so much fun to talk with other bloggers or even readers of your blog and get an opinion or share something. I usually tweet a lot during award shows, about the red carpet looks and what do people think of them.
On Instagram works kind of the same. I am “the liker” it takes to leave a whole bunch of comments all the time so I mostly like pictures but I should probably balance both of these because they help you get exposure.

Pin it – pinterest is actually a great tool that is usually not mentioned a whole lot (I think). You can share things you like and at the same time, you can share what you publish on your blog and have traffic from it.

Keywords – others call it SEO. And since I am no expert at all I encourage looking it up. It has to do with typing throughout your post popular keywords that are linked to search engines, which means if someone googles something related to your article it will appear on the first/second page according to how you wrote your post.

Advertise yourself – connect with brands and email them about your blog and how you are available if they would like to do a collaboration. Depending which brand you email too they will most likely say yes but, there will be some (probably a lot more) who would say no so don’t let this discourage you. When is meant to be, it will be.

Don’t feel sad – it takes a long time to get your blog out there, especially now that there are so many bloggers out there. Each blog and content is unique, and you should do it because you love it, and you like to share it with others so they like it. Some will and some won’t but still, it’s yours and you should be proud of taking the step of having a voice and something to say and talk about in this very wide social media world.

How to find yourself in a new city/country?

How to find yourself in a new city/country?

Read post

Moving is always hard, especially if you are going to a different city or country where you will find yourself with a different culture, language, people, etc. This is my third time moving to a new place, from Venezuela I went to California, then back to Venezuela, then to Miami and now Panama.

You have no idea how difficult it still is to get used to a new place but I have to admit after the entire struggle goes by it feels great. I have always felt like I belong to every place I have been and will be instead of feeling I only belong to one place.

Even though I love going to new places, I have always moved with a purpose. I moved to California to study English and to Miami to study Fashion and to work. Now is a little different, I moved because of my family but I do not really have any plans. It has been so hard to find a job and to settle, the past couple of months have been so tough and I have not been in a good place.

The only thing I just kept wanting was to bring the blog back because I really needed it, but I did not have a photographer or anyone who believed in me enough to realize this is a big deal and it means everything to me.

So, how do you find yourself between all the changes and the struggle of starting from zero, again?

After a few weeks of stressing, crying, being mad, wanting to just go back to Venezuela and not looking forward to the future I stopped for a minute. I was also still trying to recover from a breakup because, of course, I am too attached always.

I started reading, going to the gym, trying to eat better, writing about possible blog subjects, looking for ways to have pictures taken, etc. I realized (and a book really helped me) that worrying, crying, being sad or mad was not going to make anything easier and it was not going to make things happen from one minute to another.

My advice to you:
- Start living.
- Stop worrying, worrying means you are thinking about your future and forgetting about your present.
- You have enough free time so make something with it. Exercise, go out, find new places, meet people, etc.
- Keep pushing it, if you moved without having anything secure like a job or studies then keep pushing yourself. Apply to jobs, go to interviews, email people, call people. Insisting is also part of success, when you insist is because you really want it and at some point when is meant and right for you, you will get it.
- Don’t be stuck, If your mind wants to play you tricks to put you back in the dark zone, push it away. A negative thought can be deadly unless you can fight it with many positive ones.
- If you feel useless, like you are wasting your time when you could be having the job of your dreams or being in another place, DON’T. Things happen for a reason, sometimes we get stuck thinking about what we want so much that we don’t realize sometimes what we want is not what we need. And that there are a lot of better things waiting for us but we need to be patient and keep fighting.
- No job means no income which means you are not making money so you can’t spend it either. Yes, go out and have fun but put yourself a budget so you don’t run out of your savings. Believe me, all the bad things are temporary, good things happen all the time but we have to wait for it, complaining won’t make it happen.
- Feeling down again? Remember everything you have accomplished so far and that this is only the beginning, your time will come and you will enjoy it more if you stop punishing yourself for no reason.
- Smile a lot, meet new people, be happy, be excited, and enjoy the simple things. Nobody said it was going to be easy. 20’s are a series of rollercoasters, mind as well enjoy the ride (even though I hate them but you get the point).

A California fui a estudiar Inglés y a Miami me fui a estudiar moda y a trabajar.

- Empieza a vivir.
Aplica a trabajos, ve a entrevistas, manda e-mails, llama a personas.
- No te quedes estancada, si tu mente quiere jugarte trucos distraela.

Why Did I Start Blogging?

Why Did I Start Blogging?

Read post

It was early in 2012 and I had left on my first solo adventure away from my family. I was going to live in California for six months while I would finally learn English and was able to practice with the people I met.

I was living in California and my only priority was to attend class and learn as much as I could from this experience. It was hard for me to go out because everything was really far and you had to take like 3 buses to get to a place, basically it would take 2 hours on the bus, trying to enjoy when getting there and 2 hours to go back. It was nighttime already lol.

One day I found myself on my computer and, I remember images from this day but I don’t quite remember how I found out about blogs and all of that.

I found the platform Blogger so I opened my blog, at first I wanted it to be a photography blog, it went through a few stages “Fashion Photo Lover” is the one I remember most. I had my professional camera because I always loved photography so I got one before my trip.

I was not sure what I was doing but as time passed I realized the reasons why I started blogging are these:

- I was always very shy and introvert, this was a tool for me to show myself and be more open.
- I have always known I want to make a change in this world; it was the first step for me to do so. Little by little leads you to something big.
- I always loved fashion and watched tv, movies, and awards because of it. I just love it so much.
- Even if It was to one person, the fact that I would be able to inspire or motivate someone is so rewarding.
- I wanted to encourage girls to be themselves and not let others define them. It happened to me for a long time, I lived by critics and what my “friends” would think and say. I separated myself from that toxic environment and stopped thinking about what people says.
- I was very low key at the beginning; I did not share or say anything to anybody. I was just trying to figure it out.
- I always loved dressing up, broke some of my mom’s heels because of it.
- I used to like to write A LOT, about life, love, and deep things lol. As I grew I did not write as much but I am starting to recover those parts of myself now.
- I was bored! Yes, the main reason that led to all of this was that.

I never thought my blog would become what it is, and that I would meet, travel and know people because of it. I never imagine someone would tell me that I inspire them or that someone would ask me advice on how to open a blog. All of these things have happened and I am so aware that my blog is not the most influential, popular, or social media hit but, imagine what can happen if I keep doing it and I keep putting my heart in it? That is the reason why I started and the reason why I am still here.
It’s been rough, with ups and downs but what good thing isn’t? We must go through difficult times to appreciate the best ones.

So yes, this is why I started this journey. And if there is something you have wanted to do for a while, something you love, something you really want because of yourself, DO IT. If you don’t do it, who will? And don’t frustrate if things don’t go as expected, the best things in life take time that is how we learn to appreciate them.

Do you have a blog? Why did you start? Share your story!
